The Bronx Zoo

Here are some of my favorite sites at the Bronx Zoo today. I have wanted to go there FOREVER and I finally made it happen today. The zoo was nice but I think it fell VERY SHORT when comparing it to the Phoenix Zoo. The Bronx Zoo was BIG and I walked a million miles but I felt like I didn't see hardly any animals....ugh! That probably seems odd for me to say since I have posted pictures of LOTS of different animals. Yes, there were animals there but not very many different kinds and many of the displays were empty. At one point I remember saying this to Jose...."I think that someone built the zoo but forgot to bring the animals!" The main things I enjoyed today were 1) great exercise since I walked about 9000 miles 2) people watching 3) being in the Bronx but feeling like I was a million miles away from NYC because I was surrounded by trees and "nature" 4) wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and flip-flops in 62 degree weather today (it was odd because it snowed about 8" on Monday...hmmmm). How relaxing....right?

The bamboo and monkeys reminded me of Costa Rica....I saw this sign and HAD to take a picture! It reminded me of when I was about 8 years old and went to Alaska with my family. We were having a picnic one day at a campground that we had stopped at and all of a sudden a bear made an appearance. I remember leaving the tray of cold cuts and running to the Suburban. I was deathly afraid that the "curious" bear was going to eat our food and then come find me for dessert!
This restroom was AMAZING! I loved learning about how they re-use the water from the bathroom to water the gardens, etc. Pretty interesting!

so does the water recycle to the sinks for you to wash your hands in toilet water? :) don't drink out of the drinking fountains... you never know what water is being used! LOL!

I love the zoo. My brother served his mission in the Bronx and our entire family picked him from his mission. What a great place! Well, I didn't really like Spanish Harlem so much.

I love the peacock. It reminds me of growing up, we had a few on the ranch and I loved to listen to them caw. I feel that way about the Phx Zoo. A million miles to walk and no animals. Maybe it was just the heat, but I love the SLC and I've heard the Tucson Zoo is great.
