6 Years Ago today....

I cant believe that it was 6 years ago today that I watched these beautiful towers fall. I was approaching the end of my mission and was getting ready to return home. I was living in Brooklyn and was as close as you could possibly be to the towers and still be within mission boundaries. So many memories....it changed my life. I wish I had my journals here in NY so I could reflect on some of the things I had written. I will always remember what a humbling experience it was to be at home with the other sisters that I was living with and the things that we did together to protect ourselves that day. Too many details to explain here...almost too special to explain here. The one thing that I want to share with the world though...is that the missionaries that were in NYC during this time were there for a reason. I went to a Mission Conference the day after the towers fell and our president left us with the most comforting words. He said, "I am sure that you all are nervous and scared. I have been asked if we should change our in-your-face bold approach to teaching people. My answer to you is to love the people and be sensitive. Follow the spirit and take care of his children. Do not worry about what is happening in Manhattan. There are medical teams and rescue workers there to mend the broken bones and bandage the wounds...You are the Lord's rescue workers who are here to heal the hearts and souls." I knew at that moment more than ever that indeed there was a purpose for me to be in NY and that I had the honor of teaching people about the Plan of Salvation in one of the most needed times that this country has ever faced. I left that meeting with a feeling of security and peace knowing that I would be led to those who needed me and more importantly... the Lord...at that time in their lives.
