Max and Mina's has got to be my favorite Ice Cream place in NYC. I absolutely love everything about it. Every inch of this narrow storefront is plastered with something -- ancient magazine clippings, retro Hershey's signs, and framed newspaper clippings of their successes. It kind of reminded me of a Ben and Jerry's because of their yummy ice cream creations and their crazy use of color though. Max and Mina's is located in Flushing (Queens) and is smack dab in the middle of a Jewish neighborhood. Mostly everything in the neighborhood is Kosher and it is primarily frequented by the local Orthodox Jewish community and anyone who is lucky enough to know that it exists. I have recently seen it spotlighted on various local news channels, The Foodnetwork, and in a book that says it is one of the 10 Most Unique Ice Cream Parlors in the United States. This is great for Max and Mina's and bad for me....it means longer lines..ha. Okay...so back to why it is so great. They have the craziest ice cream flavors you will ever come across. The flavors change day to day and so you never know what you will find. Take a look at some of the flavors on this day:
Here is a list of some of the crazy flavors they offer: Sprite, Sweet Corn, Clove, Lox, Beer & Nuts, Muffin Batter, Cake Mix, Strawberry Oreo, Donut, Birthday Bash, Smore's, Rose Petal, Elephants Dream (Garlic), Spicy Hummus, Horseradish, Pizza, French Toast, Frosted Flakes, Pancakes & Waffles, Cinnamon Oreo, Freshly Brewed Coffee, Coconut Cream Pie, etc. They make over 800 flavors and they range from the "good ole regular flavors" that every one has to the craziest most "wacky" flavors that you could NEVER imagine on your own. There is the Babka, Rugelach, Halavah (sesame candy), and other flavors but I have no idea what they are because they are on the local Rabbi's Favorite Flavor List and I don't know much Hebrew. This place is fun and the flavors are great. I had Smore's and there were the biggest hunks of graham cracker, chocolate, and marshmallow just waiting to be devoured. YUM!

Yummmm. I seriously asked HeRoos to scoop me up some Playdough ice cream while reading this. Ice Cream (and food for that matter) is always better when someone else prepares it for me. I think I could easily pass up a few of the options-no thank you to pizza and horseradish!
