These ladies live next door to the house where I stayed in El Salvador. They make tortillas every morning and afternoon to sell. People pass by the house to buy them or they send their boys out on their bikes to make deliveries. They wash and boil the corn....then they take the corn to a "molino" (a man who grinds the corn into masa)....then back home to make the tortillas by hand. Now that is truly homemade! Check out the HUGE fire that they have their "comal" (griddle) sitting on top of. Can you imagine sweating over that baby while you cook everyday? Oh... did I forget to mention that it was 90 degrees with about 78% humidity? Water was literally hanging in the air and it was stifling....it is very hard to even breathe in that weather....a fire can't help the situation. Hmmmm...
