Have you seen these before? Eggs stuffed with confetti? Well, in Latin America, the are called Cascarones. I knew nothing of the tradition until my boyfriend came home with me for Easter one year. He explained that his family would drain the yolk from eggs and then fill them with confetti. Then they would SMASH them on each others heads. Needless to say, we made some and smashed them on my parents heads. It was pretty fun!
I was walking down the aisle in WALMART, yes...WALMART, with my mom the other day and I saw where they were selling Cascarones that were made in Mexico. I thought it was pretty cool and so I bought some to use with my nephews this weekend. It should be fun!
They were $2 a dozen. I thought that was a pretty good price considering that eggs are usually $1.50 (or more) and then you would have to drain the yolk, dry them, color them, and then stuff them with the paper, etc. This is easier...it has all been done for you.
