A Flat Visitor....

A "flat" friend came to visit me in NYC. This is actually my 3rd "flat" friend to visit me over the last few years. Let me explain..... Almost everyone knows the book series of Flat Stanley. Every 3rd and 4th grade child in America probably knows who he is. It seems that the schools in the West use Flat Stanley as a teaching tool for Social Studies. They children send their "flat" dolls that they make of themselves to people in their families. The doll gets passed through the mail for the entire year. Each place that he visits...the person is supposed to write the child's class to let them know about the area or city that the "flat" doll has visited. The kids are then able to learn about new places.

I have taken each of these flat dolls (for three different nephews of mine) to different parts of NYC over the last few years. My most recent "flat" guy arrived last week. We drove into the city and visited Times Square and had a look around the city.
I will be sad to seem him go (ha, ha) but I know that I need to send him off to his next destination. I will be sure to write little "E's" class though so that they know what "Flat E" has been up to.
It is kind of fun taking pictures of the flat dolls around town. The funniest part is that EVERYONE knows that it is a Flat Stanley doll. I have heard comments each time..."Oh, it is a Flat Stanley doll!" Too funny! I have actually seen MANY people taking pictures with their dolls too. I think that lots of teachers use this same idea.....pretty cute!
