I was talking to my Dad the other day about how New York City has provides so many services for the people who live here. I don't think that the residents here (especially those who are new to the USA) understand how hard it can be for people in other parts of the country to receive "Access" or Medicaid and Food Stamps. Well, in NYC it is as easy as pie.....that is what I have observed over the last 8 years that I have been visiting and living in here. I am not saying it is bad...it is just interesting to me. My last comment to my Dad was, "It seems like the city almost make it impossible for people to become independent and provide for themselves." I feel this way because they have a very poor system to regulate the programs that they have and so many "rules" aren't followed. I know people in my neighborhood who have full-time jobs and make decent money but still take advantage of food stamps and health benefits...I asked them how it was possible and they said that the city never took their benefits away and they keep sending them new renewal cards each year. Very interesting!
I saw this poster on the wall of the 42nd Street Times Square subway station and I had to laugh. It confirmed my feelings from the day before! (It is kind of hard to post something in writing because things can be misunderstood...I have a hard time explaining myself on here sometimes...I hope you all understood what I was trying to say).
