NYC: The other "Windy City"

We got a lot of rain in the city on Friday afternoon and evening. The roof about blew off the building on Thursday night and people woke up to missing patio furniture and big trees that had fallen on top of cars, etc. Infact, ConEd had to cut off the gas to thousands of homes because some of the roots of the trees that were uprooted had brought up the gas pipes with them and there was exposed open gas lines pumping gas into the open air....scary! Well, this all brings to me the fact that yesterday I went to the movies on 34th Street and 8th Ave. After eating a yummy lunch at Chipotle and seeing 2 movies I decided to head back home. I walked down 34th Street to Penn Station and almost blew away...seriously! Everything was basically on it's side because the wind was SOOOO strong and it was almost impossible to walk. The rain started up and was whipping me in the face and I was afraid that something was going to break loose and bop me in the head. I finally made it to the LIRR and managed to snap a couple blurry pics on the way. This is a common sight in NYC during the rainy season....millions of broken umbrellas thrown in the trash or blowing around the city streets. You can literally walk by 50 trashed umbrellas in just a few blocks. I liked this pic though because the umbrellas were still in "trouble" because they were still being shredded by the wind even though they were in the trash.

Craziness. I'm not much of a fan for wind. I guess there is no use in investing too much in umbrellas when one from All A Dollar will do the trick for a day.
