Soft Pillows Only....Please!

Have you ever heard of International Pillow Fight Day? Well, the official date for this outrageous event is March 22 and it is celebrated in large cities all over the world. I am a little late on this post....but I thought I would still share. Jose and I had a long day of shopping in the Village and then went to 34th Street and 8th Ave to see a movie. We were about to head back to Queens and I remembered that I needed to get some veggies at the Farmer's Market at Union Square and then go to DSW. On the way there we noticed people walking around with pillows.... all kinds of people: young and old, punk and classy, etc. It caught my attention because it isn't very often that you see people walking around with pillows on the city streets. Then I saw people coming out of all of the stores with pillows that they had just purchased. I was SUPER confused! The crowd grew and grew and then all of a sudden the feathers flew and pillows were flying everywhere. We had just walked into the middle of the biggest urban pillow fight ever! People were dressed in costumes, they were wearing helmets and hardhats, some even had masks on to filter the air so they wouldn't breathe in the feathers...these people were hardcore pillow fighters and they were prepared! It was the most outrageous and crazy (almost ridiculous yet liberating) thing I have ever seen. Nothing surprises me anymore in NYC...ha!

People walking down the street with their pillows....did you notice that the pillow case is Barney?
This cop had no idea that he was about to get bombed by a flying pillow....Love it!

MTV and about a billion other TV stations and newspapers were there taking video and pictures. You can check out a clip on YouTube if you click here. Here is a link for some pics too....HERE.

That is so cool. Aren't you glad that you were at the right place at the right time and had your camera ready. Now I need to add this event to my "Must do before I die list"along with the annual tomato fight in Spain. :)
