Prepare cake mix (1 box German Chocolate Cake) according to directions. Pour 1/2 of mixture into greased 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees....this makes a "crust." Melt 16 oz. of caramels with 1 stick of butter and 1/3 C. milk in a saucepan. Pour the caramel mixture over the baked "crust." (You can scratch the caramels, butter, and milk if you want and just pour a small can of caramel sauce over the "crust"....it's up to you).
Sprinkle 3/4 C. chocolate chips (we mixed semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips together) and 1 C. peanuts (we used walnuts) over caramel mixture and "crust."
Spread remaining batter on top of the nuts and chocolate chips.
Put the cake back into the oven and bake for 10 more minutes at 325 degrees.
Then serve it to your friend for her birthday! Make sure that you REALLY let her know how old she is by running of of birthday candles but finding a quick solution. Just use the 21 birthday candles that you have......then use 2 tea lights....and finish it off with a BIG #8 to get the grand total.....31! Beautiful!
