Korean Manicure...

One of my students moms wanted to give me a manicure last week. We had lunch and she did my nails. I was watching a Korean cartoon with the kids while she was doing my nails and I noticed something on the show that caught my attention. The little kids in the cartoon were wrapping their fingertips and jumping all around giggling. I was confused especially when they went to sleep and still had the stuff on their nails. Then they acted like it was Christmas morning when they woke up and started to take the fabric off of their fingertips. I asked the mom what it was all about. Little did I know that I would get a live demo of the whole process. It is a Korean legend. You take the leaves of this flower and mash it up. Then you put it on your nail bed and wrap them to keep them clean. It is best to do it over night because it has to stay on for a LONG time. When you unwrap your nail it will be STAINED a bright red. It doesn't come off unless you just clip off the nail. The story goes....if you still have any color on your nail by the first snowfall in the winter, you will marry your first love. Hmmm...interesting!

This is the flower from their garden. She put some on her little girls nails and then I let her do one of my nails. Yes, I had to walk around for hours like this because I knew that they would want to check my nail the next time I saw them. I have to admit that I didn't last over night. However, I did leave it on for the majority of the day.

The next two pictures some images that I got from Google images. I just wanted to show what it looks like....interesting! If you ever run out of fingernail polish, just grab some leaves!
