My friend Jennifer Anastasiadis, a 5th grade teacher at my school, got married this past weekend! It was a very beautiful event and I am glad that I was invited to attend. Congrats Mrs. Siroky! The wedding was at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Queens. It is actually right down the street from where I live.
Here are Jennifer and her father walking down the aisle. I loved their dance at the reception together....it wasn't traditional AT ALL! They danced to Guns and Roses...Sweet Child O' Mine. Very funky...fun!
The ceremony was a true "cultural experience" for me. It was very different from other weddings that I have attended. The bride and groom had no vows and didn't actually say a word during the entire wedding. There was a lot of chanting/singing in Greek from the priests.
The reception was in Long Island at a place called Chateau Briand. It was very beautiful! The cocktail hour was outside in the garden. There were fountains, fireplace coves, tents, palms, etc. Everyone relaxed and noshed on the various buffet displays that they had. I hung out with the fruit, cheese, and calamari. YUM!
Then, it was time to go to the ballroom for dinner and dancing.
Here I am with Jennifer and her husband Dean.
It truly was a Big Fat Greek Wedding. They all danced in a HUGE circle to Greek music and it really was an "Opa" moment. In fact, Jennifer danced passed us and shouted...."Is this Greek enough for you?" Ha!
Here is our "work group" that was invited. I think that many people at work felt bad that they weren't invited. I felt honored to have been included in the 6 people that were invited.

Here comes the bride....
We got a little crazy after a while. Lots of dancing and laughs! We picked these flowers out of the HUGE centerpieces as we were leaving.
Colleen (a 5th grade teacher) and I hanging out at our table.
We were some of the last people to leave. There were still some people dancing when we left though. I had to take a picture of the dance floor. I have NEVER seen so much money thrown before in my life. People were throwing it all of the dance floor...it was literally raining dollar bills. Too funny!
Thanks again Jennifer! Enjoy your honeymoon in Aruba.....
