Nope, I am not talking about what my brothers used to call the young adult wards in Arizona...I am talking about a new place in Queens. I needed some silver shoes for a wedding and couldn't find them anywhere. I knew that I could find them in the densely populated Latino area on Roosevelt Avenue in Corona. I found them and on my way back to the car, I found some GREAT deals on fruit, veggies, and meat too!

10 plantains for $1.....any takers!

Then I went inside and got some meat to grill....
carne asada, YUM! I was surprised to see that they had HUGE slabs of meat laying around and it wasn't covered. I have seen it before around the city but it usually looks nasty. This meat actually looked clean and fresh.

I
didn't buy it though...I grabbed some prepackaged meat (that was probably out in the open before they packaged it..ha) and had the guy slice it for me.

The room was freezing! It was funny because it was a HORRIBLY humid day outside and I walked into the meat area and these guys had jackets on like it was Alaska. They said that they feel cruddy most of them time because they are freezing all day at work and then sweat their "bums" off at home in the evenings because they have no air conditioner. Not good!

Sure, I'll take a cow foot!

So, I was feeling good about the place. Sure, it is no Whole Foods, but it is good for Queens. Well, that "good" feeling kind of stopped when I noticed a massive bone that looked like it was from King Kong just LAYING on the counter by someones coffee cup.
Ewwww! Nasty! It is probably no big deal, it just looked pretty yucky! The difference with this place is that they
don't have a "back room" like most grocery stores. You are "IN" the butcher area when you go in there. Know what I mean? I am sure you could see some pretty gruesome things in the back of a meat counter in regular grocery store. We'd probably all be vegetarians if we saw it....ha! Ugh....Interesting!

I love seeing all those veggies! If I know me, I would buy wayyyy more that I could use......then feel bad when they got old. Sure looks fun though.
sick freakin' bone chucked on the counter...ya.. totally. :/
looks like I know where to get my plantains when I come out there. :)
last time i fried them i added a touch of sugar to them and they were super yum! :) you definitely got me addicted to those things, but I still can't dip them in your creme yet... :)
now where are the silver ho ho shoes you were hunting for? are they hidden in the pictures of the fruit? or shoved next to the cows feet for a good "hidden pictures" find? :)
gaaaaay!
