Newport, Rhode Island....

This beauty of Newport was absolutely breathtaking! As we drove over the bridge (in the picture above) we could see thousands of ships and quaint homes along the waters edge. There were lighthouses and little islands. We even saw a HUGE house that was on its own miniature island with a light house. Amazing! We accidentally found a well kept secret....the Newport Shipyard. We walked around and took some pictures. I wish that I would have taken pictures of the big yachts. I can't imagine the millions that they must cost. Yowwwza! Then it was time to have a nice lunch. We had seen a place in Boston called the Barking Crab.....they recently opened a Barking Crab in Northport and so we had to check it out.Peel and eat shrimp appetizer.....YUM!Then it was time for the REAL meal! Little did we know....we ordered way too much and had to leave a bunch on the plate. We were picking for HOURS! Well, more than an hour though. It was SUPER yummy and really fun. We were definitely ready to wash our hands up when we finished though.2 lb Lobster and 4 lbs of crab legs.....yum!This picture was AFTER we had already been "pickin" for a LONG while. Ha!

After lunch, there was a 20 minute rainstorm that washed out the city. We walked around the Seaport and checked out the shops.
Boats at the Seaport.....
Then we drove through the hundreds of fancy mansions that line Bellevue Avenue. There are 11 that are now museums and they were built as far back as 1747. That is old! You can see how beautiful they are by clicking HERE. I didn't get any pictures because I was driving. Oh well! Then we were off to find a beach to swim in. We found this private beach along the mansions called Gooseberry Beach. It was a beautiful cove with large boulders in the water. It kind of reminded me of the Costa Rican beaches I have been to. There is a cliff walk trail that goes along the waters edge between the mansion gardens/homes and the water. It is BEAUTIFUL! I wished I could have taken more pictures but my camera battery died while I was walking around.I did manage to take a picture of these gooseberries that cover all of the bushes in this area. I never new that gooseberries really existed. I just know the cookbooks called Gooseberry Patch
cookbooks. This was really neat to see. These are the "40 Steps" at Narragansset Ave and the Cliff Walk. They are stone steps that drop off the side of the cliff and plunge into the sea. I didn't walk down them but I walked on the cliff path. Beautiful!Believe it or not....the sun came out after the clouds and rainstorm. The only problem was that my camera died and I couldn't keep "snappin" pictures. If you know me....that is a HUGE problem. I also had NO WHERE to charge it. We found two beaches that were great and ended up swimming in a cove where there were about 100 locals surfing. It was busy but fun. I took some pictures on my phone and will post those later. We waited until about 6 that evening and then headed off to destination #3.
