Yes, just another reason why I L.O.V.E. NYC. There is always something unique and interesting going on.....always some kind of an adventure! I found a new "favorite" spot and it is not even far from my house...it is right here in Queens. I have loved shaved ice since I was a little girl. There was a place next to Arizona State University called Snow Oasis and my friend Sarah and I would ride our bikes there often. It was a few miles away and so the journey seemed far but it was well worth the sweat in the hot AZ sun. In NYC, Italian Ice is all the rave and is similar to the ice at Snow Oasis. Bahama Buck is JUNK compared to this stuff! The Lemon Ice King of Corona is SUPER famous and can even be seen in many movies and on the intro to the show The King of Queens.My friend Alice and I decided to try it out.....she loved the Lemon ice and I devoured the Cherry...yummy!Then we went across the street to a little park (it is a tiny triangular shaped park in the middle of the street) that is known as Spaghetti Park. It was nick-named this years ago because of the SUPER Italian neighborhood that it is located in and the fact that they have a Bocce ball court. People come from all over to buy the Italian Ice's and then they go to the park to watch the locals play bocce ball. The majority of the men that play have lived on that block their entire lives....most of them look like they are about 60+ years old. There is a movie about the men who play in this park and there are a few books (including a children's book) about this park. It was so fun to see them play, hear them yell at each other in Italian when they were confused about a point, and witness the community coming together to just "hang out." So, if you are ever around Spaghetti Park....grab an Italian Ice and stay awhile!
